Unfortunately, having hypertension
can lead to a lot of health consequences. Most people don't even know
that they have high blood pressure until there doctor informs them.
There are rarely any symptoms. This is why hypertension is called the
silent killer.
On the other hand, some people
do claim to have symptoms. Some of the possible symptoms of high blood
pressure include having a severe headache, blood in the urine, an irregular
heartbeat, a feeling of anxiety, vision problems and others.
Blood pressure measurements
are checked with a syphgmomanometer and a stethoscope. Many people first
find out that they have high blood pressure when they visit their doctor
for a normal checkup. The doctor then informs them that there blood
pressure is a little high and that they will have to keep an eye on
it. If subsequent readings are high, they may be diagnosed with hypertension.
Traditionally, hypertension
was diagnosed when the systolic measurement was consistently measured
at over 140. If it was measured at 130 then the diagnosis would be borderline
hypertension. The ideal blood pressure was thought to be 120/80. These
days, doctors think of the ideal blood pressure being closer to 115/75.
If you are diagnosed with
high blood pressure, it may come as a shock to you since you had not
experienced any symptoms. Once you are diagnosed, your doctor may suggest
that you go on some type of hypertension medication. One thing that
you can do, in an effort to avoid having to go on hypertension medication,
is to start taking care of your heart and your circulatory system. Take
